Diversity and empathy shine through many of the shots shortlisted for the latest Portrait of Britain prize. Here, some of the photographers introduce their work
Digital screens across the UK will become a nationwide portrait gallery in the coming weeks by displaying winning images by some of the nation’s best portrait photographers.
From a warm and uplifting shot of Jessikah Inaba, Britain’s first Black and blind female barrister, to an atmospheric capture of a young footballer after a training session, the images were all entered into the Portrait of Britain competition in 2023.
David McEvoy of JCDecaux described the collection as a “joyous, inclusive and thought-provoking celebration of what it means to live in Britain today”.
The 100 winning images are on show on JCDecaux screens across the country throughout January 2024. The 200 shortlisted images have been published in the Portrait of Britain Vol. 6 photobook, available at bluecoatpress.co.uk.
